Conversations is a series of events focused on open discussions on the changing new media landscape. Our events will feature panels with insights from the most respected news organizations, the newest disruptive publishers, and tech and media thought leaders. Through conversations, let’s work to transform media together.

In today’s volatile political environment and fact-optional society, the need for civic-minded journalism is greater than it has ever been before. Clear and honest reporting that allows our citizens to develop informed opinions is a cornerstone to maintaining our democracy by holding the powerful to account and by shining a bright light on injustice and the abuse of power at local and national levels. While technology has increased the availability of news by making it instantly available across a wide variety of platforms, the ways in which media organizations meet that appetite are evolving as a result of substantial shifts in the economics of news journalism, changes in newsrooms, and the need to balance between political and local hard news that informs the public versus entertainment news and entertaining information. Among the questions we will ask include: Is cooperative journalism the way out of this problem, and can media companies work together to provide valuable coverage on issues that may otherwise go unreported?

Can newsroom technology increase this collaboration and provide a springboard by which the most important stories are able to achieve greater resonance across a broader audience?

Moderated by Eric Gertler, Co-Chairman of New York Daily News and U.S. News & World Report.
