The Struga Poetry Evenings festival is traditionally taking place around the end of August, crowning the Macedonian cultural scene during the summer season. It is perhaps the biggest poetry gathering in the world, uniting publishers, poets, book reviewers, theoreticians and literary promoters. So far, the festival has had more than 5000 people from the poetry industry, becoming a significant literary gathering with international acclaim.

The readings are held throughout the town of Struga, with a special emphasis around the river Black Drin.

Traditionally, the Struga Poetry Evenings festival awards the Golden Wreath, the Miladinov Brothers Award, the Bridges of Struga award, and the Iselenicka Gramota award given to a poet from the Macedonian diaspora.

The festival has a rich history, dating back to 1961, when it was first established. Several years later, the main award was presented, and given to Robert Rozhdestvensky. The festival grew exponentially, hosting poets from all around the world.

The traditional opening and closing ceremonies take place on a bridge on the river of Black Drin, at the center of Struga.
