When reconsidering kinetic typography, how can we find the common threads in different media? By comparing moving type in cinema, poems, and interfaces, we can begin to create visual parallels that bridge these forms. Follow the first uses of subtitles in motion pictures to the evolution of concrete poetry, then to early computer graphics and the interface aesthetics of our digital tools. All of these subjects introduce time and/or interaction to type to emphasize the graphic qualities of text.
