The Seattle Review of Books and the Seattle Weekly present our monthly election-related book club, hosted by Third Place Books, Seward Park. This month we discuss “What We Do Now: Standing Up For Your Values in Trump’s America.”
More details:
You’re scared and confused. We’re scared and confused, too. Donald Trump winning the election on a platform of racism, sexism, and fear has forced all of us to admit what we don’t know. What happens now? The Seattle Review of Books and Seattle Weekly are hosting Reading Through It, a monthly book club exploring who we are as Americans, where we’re going, and how to fix it. The only cure for fear and confusion is knowledge, so let’s learn together.
In April we will discuss What We Do Now by Dennis Johnson. A collection of passionate manifestos by some of the country’s leading progressives, What We Do Now aims to provide a blueprint for how those stunned progressives can move forward. Its powerful contributions – from economists, environmentalists, activists, artists, politicians, and novelists – will offer encouragement and guidance to practicing constitutionally protected acts of resistance throughout the unprecedented upcoming administration. Among the contributors are Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Gloria Steinem, Paul Krugman, Robert B. Reich, George Saunders and Dave Eggers as well the heads of the ACLU, the NAACP, the Sierra Club, the Arab American Association, the National GLBTQ Task Force, the Freedom of the Press Association, and other prominent activists.
Each month’s book club selection will be discounted 20% through the date of the book club.
All are welcome, no purchase required.
