The Women's Caucus for Art (WCA) presents its 33rd Annual Lifetime Achievement Awards honoring Whitney Chadwick, Suzanne Lacy, Ferris Olin, Trinh T. Minh-ha, and Bernice Steinbaum. Additionally, Karen Mary Davalos and Cathy Salser will be presented with the President's Art & Activism Awards. The WCA Lifetime Achievement Awards, begun in 1979, were one of the first awards to recognize the contribution of women to the arts and their profound effect on society. The Awards honor women's work: their visions, commitments, and sheer determination. They bring to light not only their voices, but the voices of thousands of women who came before them, who remained anonymous and unappreciated, hidden in the shadows of their male counterparts. The WCA Lifetime Achievement Awards continue today, not because of sentiment, but because of the need for women in the arts to be recognized, validated and acknowledged. The Lifetime Achievement Awards ceremony is free of charge and the public is invited to honor and congratulate the awardees.

WCA is celebrating its 40th Anniversary in 2012. Founded in 1972 in connection with the College Art Association, it is the leading national organization for women in the arts. It is unique in its multi-disciplinary, multicultural membership of artists, art historians, students, educators, and museum professionals. The mission of the Women's Caucus for Art is to create community through art, education and social activism. WCA is committed to recognizing the contribution of women in the arts, providing women with leadership opportunities and professional development, expanding networking and exhibition opportunities for women, supporting local, national and global art activism and advocating for equity in the arts for all.
