William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet
Inspired by the artists and community affected by the civil unrest in the 1990s and featuring art installations in the lobby.

Starring Nic Few, Luis Galindo, Geoffrey Lower, Barbara Roberts, Xochitl Romeo, Christopher Salazar and Caro Zeller.

Directed by Chris Anthony.

The Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles (SCLA) continues its tradition of L.A.-centric theatre with its 2nd Annual Spring Festival production of Romeo & Juliet, set in a 1990s community center with a unique conceit: the center's "staff" is tasked with performing the play.

"The story of Romeo & Juliet has been told a thousand different ways," says Director Ms. Chris Anthony, "we wanted to approach it from the point of view of the storyteller - how would artists tell the tale to help a community locked in cycles of violence?"

Continues Ms. Anthony: "The 90s was a culturally, politically and artistically significant era for Los Angeles, so it seemed like a natural backdrop for Shakespeare's story."

The setting for the show really comes alive the minute playgoers step into SCLA's lobby, which will be transformed into an art space inspired by the youth, street art and stories of the 1990s.

Patrons are encouraged to bring their own photos and memorabilia to add to the installation, which will be open for the hour prior to curtain.

The show runs approx. 2 hours 30 minutes with an intermission.
