Did you know that the Deering Estate is home to over 115 acres of coastal tropical hardwood hammock and 150 acres of globally endangered pine rockland forests? Now, you can help preserve this living piece of natural history. Help us plant endangered species and remove exotic vegetation to restore part of these fragile habitats.
Practical Tips for Volunteer Workdays:
• Wear closed toe shoes
• Come prepared to work outdoors
• Wear long pants
• Use sun block
• Wear a hat
• Bring insect repellent
• Drink plenty of fluids
• Avoid thorny plants
• Avoid poison ivy and poisonwood
