LIVE SERIES PAIRS ARTISTS FOR CROSS-GENRE COLLABORATION; FIFTH SHOW TAKES PLACE ON THE ROOFTOP OF THE STANDARD, DOWNTOWN LA ON MARCH 8TH

Los Angeles (February 15, 2011)— The Standard, Downtown LA is set to host and sponsor the fifth show of the monthly special event NICOLE DISSON PRESENTS: THE SERIES, which pairs top talent in the fields of contemporary dance, performance art, playwriting, poetry, music composition and performing—most of whom haven’t worked together previously—to collaborate on original pieces that will be performed only once. These pieces are commissioned to be site-specific to the event’s location—the stunning rooftop of The Standard, Downtown LA.

March’s event features a massive slate of exciting new contributors, including the LA- based experimental theater collective POOR DOG GROUP, who recently wrapped residencies at the Getty Villa and the REDCAT. Also on board are musicians EMILY LACY (who has performed at the Whitney, the Hammer and LACMA, and works closely with the Machine Project) and JULIA HOLTER (voted Dublab’s favorite musician of the year), experimental musician and performance artist JASON GRIER(who has collaborated with Ariel Pink and Linda Perhacs), lighting artist AARON DRAKE (whose work has been featured at the Hammer, the REDCAT and the Machine Project), the band TEARIST, videographer ARIANA NATALE aka AIR (a member of the director’s collective THE MASSES), dancer/choreographer MAJKEN CHRISTENSEN, singer ALEX LILLY of Obi Best and The Living Sisters, installation artist DREW DENNY and actress/sign language interpreter SHARON PIERRE- LOUISE. The event will be directed by D’ARCY FRENCH-MYERSON, who produced site-specific experimental theater piece Sneaky Nietzsche in downtown LA layear. All of the show’s elements will be interpretations of the theme “Sound Off.”
