35 West 67th St.
New York City, New York

The creative and technological walls between filmmaking and video-game-making are quickly disappearing. Games now have directors and writers and borrow story elements from films, while films use animation techniques pioneered by game-makers. With new movements such as Machinima, in which filmmakers use game engines to create movies, a new cinematic language is emerging.

The lecture/discussion panel will include:
Katie Salen, acting director of the graduate Design & Technology program at Parsons School of Design; Paul Marino, executive director of the Academy of Machinima Arts and Sciences; and Tommy Pallotta, producer of Waking Life. Moderating is Graham Leggat, game columnist for the New York Daily News and Filmmaker magazine.
