When the mercury climbs this summer and the temperatures rise, look no further than Villa Christina for a sultry al fresco evening of smooth jazz presented by Smooth Jazz 107.5 WJZZ and TD Entertainment. Escape the hustle and bustle of city life with a relaxing getaway to Villa Christina’s secluded gardens and enjoy live jazz performances at the 4th Annual Summer Jazz Series at Villa Christina. The Summer Jazz Series offers free jazz concerts all summer long in Villa Christina’s serene oasis of calm: flourishing gardens situated next to meandering streams and cascading waterfalls. Adam Ghali, General Manager of Villa Christina, was delighted by the huge success of the past three jazz concert series. “We’re so excited about this summer’s upcoming shows. The Series consists of four complimentary outdoor concerts at Villa Christina on select Sundays throughout the summer. The Series kicks off with world renowned drummer, Sonny Emory on June 17th. Though probably best known for his ground breaking drumming with Earth, Wind and Fire; Sonny has performed with a “virtual who’s who” in pop, jazz, R&B and funk. These artists include David Sanborn, Bette Midler, Al Jarreau, and more. This charismatic, Grammy Award Winner, incorporates innovative visual effects to his performance, and is considered to be one of the greatest drummers of today. On Sunday, July 15th, the fun continues with multi-talented vocalist, composer and instrumentalist Alex Lattimore. Alex is an award winning entertainer that has received many accolades, including “Future of Jazz Finalist”, “Most Outstanding Vocalist” and “Most Outstanding Brass Player” He has collaborated with many musical giants, including Grammy Award Winner Earl Klugh, Luther Vandross, Atlanta’s own India.Arie and more. On August 19th, saxophonist Ron James will wow the crowds with his melodic mixture of contemporary Jazz, Blues and Inspirational music, laced with funky rhythmic undertones. This Future of Jazz Finalist will take you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions that speak life into your heart and leave a mark on your soul. On September 16th, mark your calendar to spend the evening with vocalist Tammy Allen. This exceptionally talented Jazz performer and lyricist, along with her wonderful band, The Colors of Jazz, will close the series with passion and panache. Tammy’s soulful vocals will take the audience on a musical journey as she blends Smooth Jazz with R&B, and even adds some Latin flavor to the mix.
Doors open at 4:00 p.m. and music begins at 5:30 p.m. Concert goers should bring blankets or lawn chairs for comfortable seating. Children of all ages are welcome and will be delighted by free activities including a moonwalk.
The leisurely evenings will include experiencing Atlanta’s finest jazz with family and friends as well as enjoying Villa Christina’s unsurpassed cuisine in a lovely outdoor oasis. There will be a variety of exhibitors whose products and services will be available for purchase.
Exquisite food and a variety of beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) will be offered by Villa Christina and Caffe Christina to go for purchase on the premises. Nibble on light delicacies such as fresh shrimp and salmon salads, or feast on gourmet burgers stuffed with special seasonings, plump hot dogs with French fries, or real Italian-style pizza straight from the wood-burning-oven. Be sure to save room for an indulgent dessert such as tiramisu or cheesecake, because the food here is unsurpassed. No coolers are allowed on the grounds.
