Speakers: BART SCHACHTER

Bart Schachter is a Managing Director of Blueprint Ventures. Bart brings 17 years of entrepreneurial, venture, and industry operating experience in communication semiconductors, wireless, and infrastructure software. He has backed and served on the boards of over 20 emerging technology companies including Covad, Copper Mountain, Media4 (EchoStar), NorthPoint, AccessLan (AFC), IteX, GlobeSpanVirata (Conexant), and Broadband Access Systems (ADC).

Bart's current investment focus includes wireless technologies, nanoelectronics, communications semiconductors, and early-stage Corporate IP Spinouts.

Bart started his venture capital career in 1996 at Intel Capital as Director of Networking and Communication Investments. He led investments spanning all areas of communications infrastructure including service providers, systems, and semiconductor companies.

His current board responsibilities include WiSpry, KeyEye Communications, AirTight Networks, Kiptronic, and LANDesk.

Bart holds a BS in Computer Engineering from Cornell University and an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management.

In his spare time, Bart enjoys mountain biking, playing tennis, running, and traveling with his wife and their Hungarian Vizsla. He has lived throughout the world and is fluent in three languages.

CARL SHOWALTER

Carl Showalter is a founding partner of Opus Capital focusing primarily on networking software, systems and semiconductor investments. Previously, Carl was a General Partner with Lightspeed Venture Partners.

Carl brings more than 12 years of operating experience to Opus. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Worldwide Marketing at Juniper Networks, where he built and led an organization that helped grow service provider market share against Cisco from 15% to 35% in under two years. Prior to Juniper, Carl was Vice President of Dial and Broadband Services for UUNET, overseeing the 300-person, $1B division.

He also held various management positions at ANS, an AOL company, where he helped pioneer hardware-based firewalls and VPNs. Carl began his career at Bellcore, focusing on network security and data service delivery. At Bellcore, Carl's job included performing logical and physical attacks on phone companies, then helping them fix their vulnerabilities.

Carl holds a BS degree in Systems Engineering from the University of Virginia and an MS degree in Engineering-Economic Systems from Stanford University.

DOUG RENERT

Doug Renert is a Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Tandem Entrepreneurs, an early stage fund that teams its seasoned innovators with founders of its portfolio companies to build successful businesses for relatively low amounts of capital. Prior to Tandem, Doug served as CEO of Tello Corporation, a venture-backed company delivering hosted IP communications services to small and medium-sized businesses. Doug also worked as a Vice President at Oracle, where he spent a combined eight years managing the vertical industry solutions business and running corporate development in Oracle’s applications business. He was previously a corporate attorney with Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich (now DLA Piper). Doug has a JD and MBA from the University of California, Berkeley and a BA from Princeton University.
