So you think you're Jewish?

It's the early 21st Century, and we are Jews living in the Bay Area. Some of us attend regular services, light the candles every Friday, and still sing the same prayers from our camp days. Others can't remember the last time we wore a keepah so the holidays keep popping up unplanned for.

But we are all Jews, and we all wear that proudly, a badge of honor that, perhaps more than anything, gives us our sense of selves. We take great pride when public figures we admire are Jewish, even if we don't say it out loud, and cringe a bit when other figures embarrass or anger us.

What does this all mean? What does being Jewish in early 21st Century American mean? Who is defining that? How do we define it ourselves?

In this writing workshop, we will ask ourselves all of these questions and more. Led by award-winning writer James Kass, founder of Youth Speaks, and joined by special guests, this workshop will ask us to listen to the stories we already know, and those that are just below the surface, ready to come out.
