The Kanbar Center for the Performing Arts at the Osher Marin JCC continues their 20th Anniversary Summer Nights Season by circling the globe to bring a touch of Brazil to Marin. The third 'Summer Nights' concert is ready to celebrate life through dancing, drumming and singing with Sambaguru featuring Katia Moraes, Saturday July 17, 2010. As with every summer concert this season, the evening will begin with a pre-concert dance lesson to pair with the collective rhythms of the globe. Doors open at 6:15pm, pre-show Samba dance lesson with Tika Morgan begins at 6:40pm, and the diverse ensemble of vocals and musicians will begin at 7:00pm. Sambaguru and Katia Moraes are fused together through their love of Brazilian music - resulting in rich culturally charged performances. They are coming together at the Marin JCC with great diversity in technique and regional backgrounds of each band member. Katia Moraes is the vibrant, infectious vocals of the group, while the other band members, Kevin Ricard on percussion, Tony Shogren drum kit, Hussain Jiffrey bass, Grecco Burato on guitar, Bill Brendle on keyboards and accordion and Mitchell Long seven on string guitar, blend its own stylistic musical experience of remarkable depth and quality. The ethnic flavors of Sambaguru and Katia Moraes are a Brazilian base with a hint of styles and rhythms from surrounding regions. Their extensive repertoire is carried over to all corners of the world - adding variety to their high-energy electric, up-beat, vibrant performances.
