Problem solving is a vital skill in Primary Mathematics. All too often, students who are good at calculations are stumped when trying to decipher and interpret Problems. But, equipped with some simple tools, problem solving can become much easier. Sometimes real world application of mathematical processes can aid our understanding and mathematical success. Participants in this course will examine a range of strategies and approaches to solving problems in the context of core Board of Studies Stage 3 outcomes. Discussion and collaboration in pairs and small groups is encouraged. Use of concrete materials and appropriate software and web content are integrated to enrich and enhance these sessions as students develop their own 'Problem-Solving Toolkit'. This course is suitable for students in Years 5 to 6. Details of this event may be subject to change. Please visit http://cce.sydney.edu.au/course/psfu for more information or to register.
