Puget Sound Poetry Connection presents a poetry workshop, Imagination as Value: The Imaginative Horizon, facilitated by Amalio Madueño, visiting poet, writer, and instructor. He will lead writing activities and exercises while discussing the place of poetry in contemporary American society, poetics theory and its roots, recent developments and influences. Workshop will also cover a brief overview of contemporary poetics, poetry performance formats including spoken word, slams and bouts, etc. Includes specific discussion of poetics theory work by Olsen (Projective Verse), Stevens (The Necessary Angel), Fletcher (A New Theory), Blaser (The Fire), Rothenberg (Poetics & Polemics), Zukovsky (A Test of Poetry) and more. Workshop fee is $15, payable at the workshop. Please bring paper and pen, and cash or check for the workshop fee. Amalio Madueño is the former president of the Taos Poetry Circus. He has prepared and delivered numerous poetry writing programs, seminars, and workshops over the last 15 years, including being creator and principal instructor for the annual Mexican Bob’s Poetry Camp for the Taos Poetry Circus. He has worked on curriculum and delivery of poetry for school programs, writer's workshops, libraries, and festival across the West coast. He has published widely in journals across the United States and Europe. His first full-length work, Lost In The Chamiso, was published in 2006. A new collection of his poems, Bosque Stream, is due out Fall 2010.
