Following his recent Grammy nomination for critically-acclaimed album Mulatos , Cuban composer and pianist Omar Sosa returns to Yoshi?s with a new Quartet featuring saxophone great, Pee Wee Ellis, live-drum-n-bass pioneer, drummer Marque Gilmore, and Mozambican bassist Childo Tomas. Omar Sosa is known for fusing a wide range of world music and electronic elements with his native Afro-Cuban roots to create a fresh and original urban sound, all with a Latin jazz heart. On stage, Sosa is a charismatic figure, inspiring his fellow musicians with his dynamic playing and improvisational approach to the music ? an approach full of raw emotional power and humor. Pee Wee Ellis was an original member of James Brown's band and helped define the sound of 1960's soul and funk.
