The old-time tradition renewed
Fresh from appearances on both nights of the 2004 Ann Arbor Folk Festival, Old Crow Medicine Show is an acoustic old-time ensemble with a nice rough edge. Their hell-raising Saturday-night performances are something of a new institution in Nashville, a place where the daytime purveyors of self-satisfied country music can go to get back in touch with their roots and themselves. Many of the band's recent songs have taken on a bluesy tinge, and of the various punkified stringbands in circulation these days, it's Old Crow Medicine Show that has the mixture of dignity and unbridled fun that marked the greatest of the old-time string groups.
