Minneapolis, Minnesota -- The Minneapolis-made independent movie MONDO COLLECTO marks its world premiere on Monday, September 18, 2006, with two screenings at the Historic Heights Theater, 3951 Central Ave. NE, Columbia Heights.

MONDO COLLECTO is a feature length documentary about "collectors and their collections" created by Minneapolis filmmaker and entertainer R.P. Whalen, known professionally as "Rock & Roll Ray". Starting with no job, no money, and a borrowed VHS-C camcorder, Whalen's journey through the world of unusual people and their stuff took more than four years. The completed theatrical feature cost less than four thousand dollars, making MONDO COLLECTO one of the least expensive films to receive theatrical play this year.

In an homage to 1960's films like Mondo Cane, MONDO COLLECTO's free form style allows Whalen to approach the subject matter with his own unique and often irreverent approach. Whalen says in this, his first feature as a director, he set out to intentionally, "break the rules of the traditional documentary."

R.P. Whalen's involvement in Minneapolis' indie film community goes back more than a decade. As the star and co-writer of 1999's Go To Hell, Whalen first saw how much effort goes in to making a moderately budgeted film. But as director, producer, writer, editor and narrator of MONDO COLLECTO, he was faced with doing everything himself, and with an even smaller budget.

Whalen says, "I've worked on projects where I had to wear a lot of hats. But, this time I had to wear the pants."

R.P. Whalen's other credits include the short This Is Bigfoot, and live appearances as the host of Atomic Midnights during the 2001-2002 and 2003 seasons. Since 2004, he has been a regular contributor to NWCT's Black Sky Cinema on Brooklyn Park Cable Access, and since January 2006, has been featured on MTN's Totally Scrabble Tuesday's in Minneapolis.
