Dear All

I would like to formally announce that JAVAWUG (Java Web User Group) is holding the Forty Eight Birds-of-Feather (Meet-up 48) at EMC/Conchango on Wednesday, 20th May 2008 from 18:30 until 20:15.

CELEBRATE!

The Java Web User Group is five years old this month of May! We are having a fabulous celebration in a new location for this one-off event. Places are limited to 40 people. So make sure you reach!

We will have a whip around of £5 to £10 so that Pizza is delivered. Send your request to mailing list. The remainder will go on Beer if there is a surplus.

This is the BOF before JavaOne 2009.

TALKS

What are the talks about?

Once again, as did in BOF 43 Open Mike, we are turning the event over to an "Open Mike" session. You can volunteer to talk about any related Java Virtual Machine technology for up to 15 minutes or general software architecture and practice. You must submit your talk to the organisers (Peter Pilgrim, Emin Tatosian) before the event. All you will need is a laptop with DVI connection to a projector, dutch courage and, most importantly, passion to deliver.

Caveat Emptor. We are going to strictly limit the time of each talk to strictly 20 minutes and we have room for three or four slots.

In summary, you can talk about:

* A technology that runs on the JVM or
* Software architecture and practice in your organisation

There is a very short time to go the event. So get your presentation in now. Send an email to the organiser right now! Comment on the blog!

Slot 1
Time: 18:40-19:00
Author: Peter Pilgrim
Subject: JavaFX BBC Sound Emulator
URL: http://jroller.com/peter_pilgrim

Peter wrote a demonstration of JavaFX calling a reversed engine JavaSound API sound generator. He originally lost the source code to the BBC Sound Engine Emulator, then used JAD to reverse disamble it from a JAR file. Peter, then, changed the implementation to better support JavaFX. He, then, created a JavaFX User Interface to control, make sounds and play the sound waves.

AFTER PARTY

We will be definitely heading to the pub afterwards and we will find somewhere to eat as well, if required. This is South of River, near the Old Vic, plenty of good eats are within walking distance!
