Confirmed Line Up:

Moby

Moby was one of the most controversial figures in techno music, alternately praised for bringing a face to the notoriously anonymous electronic genre, as well as being scorned by hordes of techno artists and fans for diluting and trivializing the form. In either case, Moby was one of the most important dance music figures of the early '90s, helping bring the music to a mainstream audience both in England and in America. Moby fused rapid disco beats with heavy distorted guitars, punk rhythms, and detailed productions that drew equally from pop, dance, and movie soundtracks. Not only did his music differ from both the cool surface textures of ambient music and the hedonistic world of house music, but so did his lifestyle; Moby was infamous for his devout, radical Christian beliefs, as well as his environmental and vegan activism. "Go" became a British Top Ten hit in 1991, establishing him as one of the premier techno producers. By the time he came to the attention of American record critics with 1995's Everything Is Wrong, his following from the early '90s had begun to erode, particularly in Britain. Nevertheless, he remained one of the most recognizable figures within techno; after he abandoned the music for guitar rock with 1996's Animal Rights, he returned to a heavy electronic base with 1997's I Like to Score and 1999's Play, the latter of which made him a genuine breakout pop star.

Born Richard Melville Hall, Moby received his nickname as a child; it derives from the fact that Herman Melville, the author of -Moby Dick, is his great-great grand uncle. Moby was raised in Darien, CT, where he played in a hardcore punk band called the Vatican Commandos as a teenager. Later, he briefly sang with Flipper, while their singer was serving time in jail. He briefly attended college, before he moved to New York City, where he began DJing in dance clubs. During the late '80s and 1990, he released a number of singles and EPs for the independent label Instinct. In 1991, he set the theme from David Lynch's television series Twin Peaks to an insistent, house-derived rhythm and titled the result "Go." The single became a surprise British hit single, climbing into the Top Ten. Following its success, Moby was invited to remix a number of mainstream and underground acts, including Michael Jackson, Pet Shop Boys, Brian Eno, Depeche Mode, Erasure, the B-52's, and Orbital.

Moby continued performing at dances and raves throughout 1991 and 1992, culminating in a set at 1992's Mixmag awards where he broke his keyboards at the end of his concert. Moby, his first full-length album, appeared in 1992. In 1993, he released the double A-side single "I Feel It" / "Thousand," which became a moderate U.K. hit. According to the -Guinness Book of Records, "Thousand" is the fastest single ever, appropriately clocking in at 1000 beats a minutes. That same year, Moby signed a record contract with Mute and his first release was Ambient, which compiled unissued material recorded between 1988 and 1991. Later that year, The Story So Far, a collection of singles released on Instinct, appeared. In 1994, the single "Hymn" -- one of the first fusions of gospel, techno, and ambient music -- was released.

In 1994, Moby signed a major-label contract with Elektra Records in the U.S. Everything Is Wrong, his first album released under the deal, appeared in the spring of 1995 to uniformly excellent reviews, especially in the American press, which had previously ignored him. Despite the promotional push behind the album and his popular sets at the 1995 Lollapalooza festival, the album wasn't a commercial success. The following year, Moby suddenly abandoned techno to record heavy guitar rock for Animal Rights, which received mixed reviews. A partial return to electronica, 1997's I Like to Score, was followed by 1999's Play. Surpassing everyone's expectations, the album became a platinum hit and reached number one in the U.K., while Play's tracks were licensed by dozens of advertisers and compilers. 18 (2002), Hotel (2005), and Last Night (2008) weren't nearly as popular, but maintained the producer's devout following. Dirty South

In a few years' time, Dirty South aka Dragan Roganovic has made an instant name for himself in the dance music industry, impressing the who who of international DJs, producers, media and music lovers with his ability to dish up ready-made dancefloor bombs. Born in Europe and moved to Australia when he was 13, Dragan thirst for music took a hold of him from a young age. Unable to afford turntables, the youngster began ixing?with an old NEC Cassette deck, while his growing fascination with production saw him re-jig his home computer and start to make beats with it using demo music software. Inspired by everyone from Led Zeppelin and later The Neptunes, Dragan focussed his attention on producing mash-ups and bootleg tracks, with his natural ability to produce devastating dancefloor weapons seeing DJs clamber for promos ?something that still characterises his rampant popularity. The international attention didn take too long to swell either. When Dragan injected his trademark house groove into Evermore t too Late?rock hit in 2006, the entire dance music world stood up and took notice. Not only did dance luminary Pete Tong reward the track as one of his coveted ssential New Tunes??the first Australian dance track to receive this accolade since Madison Avenue on Call Me Baby?in 1999, but the gem was also licensed to over 30 compilations worldwide, as well as being picked up by Warner and Ultra (USA). Included on his self-titled EP of 2006 out through respected Australian imprint Vicious Vinyl, t too Late? topped dance charts worldwide and saw Dirty South nominated for a coveted ARIA award (Australian Recording Industry Association) - a stunning follow-up to the previous year nomination for his red-hot single leazy? t Too Late?impact was also confirmed in early 2007, with a nomination for est Alternative Dance Release?at Miami nternational Dance Music Awards? No surprise that Dirty South stands as one of the hottest and most in-demand new artists in house music. His remixing credits read like an honour role of dance music finest, having reworked revered artists such as Depeche Mode, Mark Ronson, Roger Sanchez, Josh Wink, Ti褭to, Chris Lake, Fedde Le Grande, Ferry Corsten and TV Rock. Recent collaborations have also seen him team up with house kingpin Carl Kennedy for the dancefloor burner aby, I Gonna Leave you? as well as Brit Paul Harris with etter Day? earning Dirty South another prestigious ssential New Tune?gong from Pete Tong. While his productions go from strength to strength, Dirty South continues to excel in the DJing department. He toured the world, gigging throughout Europe, the UK, UAE, Canada and the USA and playing massive festivals across Australia including Good Vibrations, Future Music Festival, Summadayze, supporting the likes of Erick Morillo, Bookashade, Tom Novy, DJ Falcon and countless others. At home in Australia, he currently holds a residency with a national powerhouse club Onelove and he regularly touring interstate. Home stereos are likewise kept grooving with his throbbing mix compilations, having delivered stunning offerings for Vicious?lubwork?(2006), Australian superclub Onelove our Disco Will Eat You?(2007) and Ministry of Sound essions 4?(2007) With only a few short years under his belt in the international production scene, Dirty South potential to achieve tremendous musical heights seems limitless. As his trademark blend of beats inspires more and more house lovers from across the globe to sit up and take notice, the future is certainly looking bright down south.

Mark Farina

Making a name for himself mainly as a DJ, Mark Farina has had a large hand in the building of San Francisco's house music scene. Originally from Chicago, Farina is in the same generation of Chicago house music legends Derrick Carter and Cajmere. Mostly associated with the Mushroom Jazz series of releases, Farina is known for his down-tempo but dancefloor-friendly style of mixing jazz, house, and hip-hop.

Farina started DJing at the age of 15 in his hometown of Chicago. The city's large hand in the creation of house music had a strong influence on Farina and acted as a large source of inspiration for his DJing. At Northwestern University's radio station, WNUR, Farina and his airwaves partner Derrick Carter produced a Friday night radio show for two years. During this time, Farina released Mood as part of the trio Symbols and Instruments.

Shortly after his time at Northwestern University, Farina relocated to San Francisco. Using his musical influences, Farina made a mix tape of down-tempo house tunes called Mushroom Jazz. Soon after, the album's title spawned a type of sound and grew popular due in part to Farina's weekly residency at a local club called Jazid Up. The local notoriety of the mix tape eventually resulted in a CD of the same name on Om Records in October of 1996 and led to a global tour, which Farina headlined. In 1996, he also produced another continuous-mix CD, Seasons One, on Domestic Records. The second installation in his original series, Mushroom Jazz, Vol. 2, was released in 1998, once again resulting in another promotional tour lead by the now seasoned DJ. Farina released two more mix CDs in 1998, United DJs of America, Vol. 9 (Moonshine) and Imperial Dub, Vol. 1 (Studio !K7). After the string of mix CDs, Farina released an original work in 1998, "Midnight Calling." The track went virtually unnoticed due to the fact that Farina's mix CDs and DJing appearances were receiving most of the promotional attention. In 1999, the first in a series of CDs by Om Records meant to highlight San Francisco DJs, debuted with Farina. The CD showcased Farina's style of mixing jazzy down-tempo and disco vocal-oriented tracks. The CD was also released as a triple-vinyl pack containing, in their entirety, all the songs Farina used for the CD. In 2001, Farina continued with the Mushroom Jazz series, releasing the much-awaited third installment. Diana Potts, All Music Guide
