You are invited to attend Cinemagic's weekly independent film
screening event. The event will take place on Wednesday, May 30th, at
the Cinemagic Courtyard in Bait Lothan, Salmiya, and will run between
7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

This week, we will be screening director Erin Riklis' "The Syrian
Bride", set in the windy hills along the Israeli and Syrian border.

Leaving her village in the Golan Heights, Mona will cross the border
to marry the arranged Syrian fiancée she has never met, as is
dictated by Druze custom. Even with the pending celebrations, this
may be the saddest day in Mona's life, as once she crosses through to
the other side she may never see her family again.

In this Middle Eastern family drama, the hard politics of the region
fall away to reveal a personal and intimate account of the rituals of
marriage, family and community. Told with humor, compassion and rare
insight into the plight of women living in this region, "The Syrian
Bride" is about physical and emotional borders and the will to cross
them.

This week, we will also be hosting "Momentum", an organization run by
the students of the American School of Kuwait as part of the Injaz
Kuwait program. After successfully selling products at the opening
night of the A.S.K. spring play, they have decided to expand their
business. On Wednesday, May 30, Momentum will be selling at
Cinemagic’s Weekly Independent Film Screening. From M&Ms to sodas to
other confectionary delights, there will be treats for all to enjoy.
While Cinemagic usually provides snacks for free, this week we are
helping support these enterprising students by allowing them to sell
food and other goods. Help support their business by coming out and
purchasing a snack!

For its part, Cinemagic Kuwait, is organizing these events as part of
its efforts to contribute to the development of an internationally
competitive Kuwaiti audio-visual production industry, partly by
bringing the filmmakers and audiences together and by Increasing the
public's interest in – and appreciation for – the art of filmmaking.

As always, attendance is free of charge and you are encouraged to
invite guests. Seating is limited, so make sure you come a little
early. Snacks and refreshments will be served. Also, we will be
providing mist fans because of the weather.
