Friday, 2/2: Six-String Samurai

Location: Fools Foundation - 1025 19th St. Off of K St, between 19th and 20th, next to the back-end of Old Spaghetti Factory. 7:00 PM. Admission: $5.00.

In this fantastic indie from 1998, the Russians have nuked the US way back in 1957. Lost Vegas, and the surrounding area, have been ruled by Elvis - but now "The King is Dead" and the call has gone out for his replacement to all rock-n-rollers. Responding, Buddy (martial artist Jeffrey Falcon, known for numerous Hong Kong action films) sets out armed with his guitar and samurai sword on a Wizard of Oz-like trek. Along the way, he gets saddled with "The Kid" and the duo meet up with various unsavories, including a cannibal suburban family, "the windmill people" (remnants of the Area 51 staff?), a bounty hunter bowling team, the Russian army and a rival for King: Death. Packed with great humor, music (from The Red Elvises) and fantastic action sequences, the film was originally plagued with problems and delays, and often filmed without location clearance (they even had to evade the forest service in the desert at one point), and was only completed due to the unending drive of director Lance Mungia.

We are doing regular weekly film screenings with Fools Foundation on Fridays at 7 PM and Sundays at 3 PM - most are $5 (unless otherwise noted in advance), and will have filmmakers out from time to time.
