New Image Art welcomes the return of artist David Ellis since his last show with gallery in 2007, titled "The Burning House" alongside comrades Swoon and Faile with a new solo exhibition titled "Constant Flow." Featuring new motion works, paintings, and sculpture in the main gallery to coincide with his film "Okay" which will be on view in the Project Room.

Ellis's paintings are often recorded in a form of digital time-lapse animation Ellis calls motion painting. Like jazz, these works provide Ellis with an opportunity to combine ideas within a form that promotes improvisation and spontaneity. Immersed in music from birth, rhythm and sound are key elements to the visual quality of the flow that is played out in his work. Paintings move like memories drifting through the mind. Ellis refers to his signature painting form as "flow" representing motion in air and water. There is an unconscious, visual catalog below the surface of the final work-an archaeological, archival underpinning inside the painting, submerged below grade.

Ellis was born in Raleigh, North Carolina and received his BFA from Cooper Union, New York (1993). His first solo-exhibition in New York, Like the Motion of Water, was presented by Jessica Murray Projects (2002). He has also been selected for solo-exhibitions at Tidal, Osaka and Gas Experiment, Tokyo. His work has been included in exhibitions at Gale Gates, Smack Mellon, Downtown Arts Festival (New York), Mattress Factory (Pittsburgh); and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (San Francisco), just to name a few. His public art projects can be seen on industrial buildings in Brooklyn, tobacco barns in Cameron, North Carolina, and on the exteriors of Mo Jo Trucking vehicles. He is also the founder of an artists' collaborative team called The Barnstormers. Ellis' work has been featured in ID, Paper, ArtForum, and Flash Art, among others. He lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
Invited by The Breeders to perform at All Tomorrows Parties, and just back from their first European / UK tour after playing a series of sold out shows, the Holloys (1/2) will be stopping by New Image for a special musical performance!
