Roxys celebrate the DVD release of Baz Luhrman's Australia with a day of classic Aussie films and an all-day 2 for 1 offer on the excellent Australian Cooper's Sparkling Ale.

We kick off with some classic Ozploitation action from the late 70's starring Mel Gibson in his pre-drunken / religious days... High quality, violent and inventive low-budget filmmaking from writer director George Miller with a visual style that went on to influence numerous other artists. Quality.

It's then back to Baz's breakthrough film, the tremendously entertaining Strictly Ballroom. Ok, this film may be responsible for some of the most entertaining / dire (delete as appropriate) Saturday night prime-time tele, but this is undeniably a cracking feel-good romantic comedy. Kitsch - tick, corny - tick, heart-warming - tick, fabulous? - double tick...

Then on to the evening's epic movie. One of Australia's most successful exports, Nicole Kidman stars in this historical drama with Hugh Jackman as the rough Aussie cattle-farmer. Big, grand, possible not as successful as it could have been, but a major movie worth seeing nonetheless.

And to get you through the Mad Max violence, Strictly's sequins and hell, the sheer length of Australia, Aussie beer Cooper's Sparkling Ale will be on a 2 for 1 offer all day. Cheers!
