Seattle Archbishop J. Peter Sartain will lead Mass and Anointing of the Sick for World Day of the Sick on Saturday Feb. 9, 2013, at Providence Mount St. Vincent in West Seattle.

The public is invited to attend Mass, which begins at 10:30 a.m. and includes a reception afterwards. It will be in the third floor chapel at Providence Mount St. Vincent, 4831 35th Ave SW., Seattle.

The World Day of the Sick is a feast day of the Roman Catholic Church that was instituted on May 13, 1992 by Pope John Paul II. It is celebrated every year on the commemoration of Our Lady of Lourdes for all believers as a special time of prayer and sharing, of offering one's suffering. The feast of Lourdes was chosen because many pilgrims and visitors to Lourdes have reportedly been healed by intercerssions of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

During the Anointing of the Sick, Archbishop Sartain and at least six other priests will individually bless anyone who attends, bringing the hope and the healing of Lourdes to them.

The Very Rev. Paul Magnano, Pastor of Christ Our Hope Parish in downtown Seattle, will serve as master of ceremonies. Concelebrants include Rev. Abraham Miller of Providence Mount St. Vincent and Rev. Lyle Konen, C.Ss.R., of Redemptorists Fathers of Seattle. Other participants include Rev. William E. Gallagher, Rev. John J. Horan and Rev. Robert J. Tomkins, all of Providence Mount St. Vincent.

The Seattle University Chapel Choir will perform at the Mass.

No reservations are required and the public is invited to attend.
