An evening with Children's Authors. November 3, 2010

Family Connections invites you to celebrate the creative process behind children's literature at our 12th annual Evening with Children's Authors event.

This fundraiser will support continued innovation in education programs for pre-school and parent education for Family Connection's at-risk children and their families.

With the generous support of Hiller Aviation Museum and The Reading Bug children's book store, both located in San Carlos, we ask you to embark on this Flight of Imagination featuring presentations by distinguised children's authors and illustrators.

The event will feature three award winning authors / illustrators who will speak and personally autograph books.

"We are pleased to have the opportunity to provide the community with a chance to meet such talented children's authors and to hear some of our parents talk about the positive impact Family Connections has had on their lives," said Renee Zimmerman, Executive Director for Family Connections. "We expect one of our largest turnouts at our annual fundraiser, which shows the community's commitment to educating our youth."

This year's Authors Night will include three widely published authors and illustrators: Elisa Kleven, who has over thirty books in print, including The Paper Princess, A Carousel Tale and Welcome Home Mouse, and is known for her remarkable detail including glowing illustrations made from paint, fabric scraps and a variety of found materials. Illustrator LeUyen Pham who as a two year-old child escaped from Vietnam in the final days of the war and has pursued children's book illustration full time after working post college at DreamWorks. Her many books include God's Dream by Desmond Tutu and Alvin Ho. Robert San Souci whose books The Talking Eggs and The Faithful Friend were named Caldecott Honor Awards and whose command of storytelling and adaptation of folklore is known and appreciated amongst children's literature specialists everywhere.
