Saxophonist and clarinetist Roger “Buck” Hill is a living legend of jazz. He was a regular performer on the legendary U Street corridor of jazz clubs. By the mid 1950s, he was married with a family, driving a cab and delivering mail. Despite the family demands, he was discovered by Charlie Byrd and became a regular on the local jazz circuit, appearing with Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, and Shirley Horn. Yet he refused to give up his day job as a postman. The Washington Post’s Eric Brace has said Hill writes “compositions that are so melodically complete and so structurally satisfying that I wonder if they might become standards someday.”

Sponsored by the Prince George's County Memorial Library System. This event is free and open to the public.
