SVASE' "Learn from a Legend" is a unique program that brings together a world-class Founder or CEO with a maximum of 6 entrepreneurs. During an intensive three hour conversation over dinner, they discuss what it takes to be a CEO: personal leadership issues, the practical realities of running a company, and the quality of relationships that often define their future business life. It can be a deeply bonding experience, which often extends well beyond the dinner.

Larry Augustin is CEO of Medsphere, an open source software company that delivers a sophisticated healthcare information system. Prior to Medsphere, he was a partner at venture capital firm Azure Capital Partners where he specialized in software and systems investments, including Linux and Open Source businesses.

Larry also currently serves on the boards of directors of VA Software Corporation (as Chairman), the Open Source Development Lab, Linux International, and the Free Standards Group. Previously he was conference chairman for LinuxWorld Conference and Expo, and serves on the conference advisory board.

Prior to Azure, Larry founded VA Linux (now VA Software), where he served as CEO and led VA Linux to a position of industry leadership. Worth Magazine named him one of the Top 50 CEOs in 2000. At VA Linux, he created SourceForge.net, the world's largest Open Source software development community with over half a million users, and its commercial version, SourceForge Enterprise Edition, used to manage software development in large enterprises. Also at VA, he acquired Andover.net, merging SourceForge.net, Linux.com, Slashdot, and other well-known Open Source Internet sites to form the Open Source Development Network (OSDN). Previously, Larry held research staff positions at AT&T Bell Laboratories in the Network Architecture and Performance Center and at Stanford University in the Program Analysis and Verification Group.

Larry holds Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University, and a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Notre Dame. He has appeared as a regular columnist in Linux Magazine, is the author of numerous articles, and is the author of "Hardware Design and Simulation in VAL/VHDL," published by Kluwer Academic Publishers
