About the ARTISTS

Kevin Cheng

Everyone doodled as children but somewhere along the "growing up" line, Kevin missed the memo that said: "you?ve turned 6, please throw all your web-safe Crayolas away." He kept drawing and eventually became the co-founder and artist of OK/Cancel, probably one of the top 5 online comics on interface design and usability. Kevin is a global nomad who's settled in San Francisco after calling Vancouver, Hong Kong, Austin and London home. Recently, he co-founded Off Panel Productions a company dedicated to helping niche comic artists publish their work online and make money doing it. He dreams of a day when every obscure hobby and profession has a comic that's made just for them. By day, he draws pretty interfaces instead of comics.

Claudine Co is a Philippine-born Chinese-American who considers herself lucky to have escaped from behind the Orange Curtain (Orange County). She left for UC Berkeley in '91 and never looked back. Her reigning passion is for vernacular street dance and movement and it was through a love for hip-hop culture that an obsession with graffiti, and a corresponding interest in photography ensued. She also performs with her dance company, Loose Change and trains with Capoeira USA. Her photographic interests intersect at the cusp of all her interests: street art, urban dance and movement, and abandoned buildings. When there's some spare time, she tries to update a series of photo-life-and-food blogs at www.winterjade.com and is an avid user of Flickr.

Michael Hurt is a doctoral candidate in Ethnic Studies at Berkeley presently taking a long-ass time to write his dissertation on manifestations of extreme Korean nationalism between 1987-1997, just before the Olympic Games and the beginning of the IMF crisis. Presently, he lives and works in Seoul, while actively photographing, podcasting, and blogging as he maintains a day job teaching American History and American Culture to Korean college and high school students. All of these activities are really just cover jobs to support his home theater addiction, even as Michael should really be working harder on paying down his student loans.

Robert Kranzke aka Cecil Seaside

Robert Kranzke is a split personality: half Filipino?half Caucasian; a San Francisco native who has lived in Los Angeles for 11 years; Robert Kranzke is an artist, writer and musician who works under the name Cecil Seaside. Graduating from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena as a fine art major in 1997, he has been working as a graphic designer while creating self-published zines: Stray, Headless Bear, and, Cecil Seaside-- writing stories, poems and essays, primarily in an allegorical metafiction style. Cecil Seaside's writing has been published in the Art Center literary magazine Fish Wrap and Cecil has a consistent internet presence in the forms of writing and photography on Livejournal and Flickr. He is the author of this bio and feels very normal referring to himself in the third person.

Nicole Lee is a geek. She has this curious obsession with computers, technology, and various aspects of pop culture. Her hobbies include tinkering with her blog, chatting online, writing silly things, cooking, and reading. She also has a great deal of affection for comics. She was born and raised in Malaysia, and moved to San Francisco in 1999 to attend San Francisco State University. She earned a Bachelors of Arts in Journalism and English Literature in 2002, and a Masters of Arts in Speech & Communication Studies in 2004. Her love for technology and the written word has led her down the path of technology journalism. Her work has appeared in Wired, Gizmodo, and CNET.

Goh Nakamura

Goh Nakamura cut his teeth on the Boston Music scene providing "stunt guitar" work for various local bands. After a stint at the Berklee College of Music where he sharpened his ears, he came back to the west coast to write his own songs. He likes to think of himself as a combination of John Lennon, John Cusack and John Coltrane. However unholy this trinity is, it seems to work (at least in his head). For the last 3 years, he's been playing his original songs as well as an eclectic spectrum of covers at assorted venues throughout the SF Bay Area. Goh Nakamura's debut album, "Daylight Savings", was recently named one of the Top Ten Local Albums of 2004 by the San Jose Metro. Check him out at www.gohnakamura.com.

Gerard Reyes

Gerard Reyes was made in the Philippines, assembled in the US. He grew up in Surigao City, raised in Daly City, schooled in San Francisco at Academy of Art University and at CalPoly, SLO. Dancing since he could walk, learning about music via vinyl, casette tape singles and piano lessons, and programming since 1st grade, he's become a multi-talented Master of All Trades. Online-journamalizing since 1998, he's done everything from audio entries to flash intros to splash pages to daily redesigns, before "web 2.0" and "podcasting." Hoping that he could somehow gain some knowledge in return, he likes to take everything he's learned personally as well as professionally, and share it with the world (wide web). He also doesn't think writing in the third person about oneself is cute.

Paolo Sambrano can be compared to an airplane full of cheerleaders that crash-landed in Candyland. the resulting debris was a peppermint and shrapel laced pep-rally admist the burning wreckage. On a mission to bring face rocking rock and roll to the masses by any means necessary, aside from actually playing an instrument, this nineteen year old community college screw up, corporate flunkie, blogger wannabe is the creator of the UthTV show "Commerical Free Paolo". In addition to that, he is the maintainer of Subversive Irony, and a contributor to UthTV's blog and to SFist.

Winona Tong

Originally from Toronto, Canada, Winona has made Silicon Valley her new home. While studying Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo, Winona managed to garner an audience of clinically insane web stalkers time and time again, no matter how she reinvented herself and her blog. Winona has since come to terms with her own propensity to be a freak magnet and currently spends her days as an Internet recluse. As she lacks formal training in fine arts, Winona does not consider herself to be an artist but rather an "engineer with slightly better taste than most". She is a devout Pastafarian and a supporter of the sciences.
