Civic Bandwidth: Community WiFi +/- Municipal Wireless January 23, 2007

Toronto's favourite wireless group, Wireless Toronto [ http://wirelesstoronto.ca] is hosting an open discussion/meet & greet with some of Canada's best known community WiFi innovators and researchers at will be held at Lot 16 (1136 Queen St West) one of West Queen West's hippest night spots.

"Civic Bandwidth: Understanding Community and Municipal Wireless Networks" is an open forum featuring brief presentations by Michael Lenczner of Ile Sans Fil ( http://ilesansfil.org/ ) and Graham Longford from the community Wireless Infrastructure Research Project (CWIRP) (http://cwirp.ca/). Light refreshments will be served following the presentations; and everyone can enjoy the compelling beats laid down by DJ Qasim.

Members from Wireless Toronto will also be present to answer questions and brainstorm with attendees about the possibilities of open wireless (WiFi) networks for art, music, alternative broadcasting, and making local connections that foster community.

There is a growing interest in "wireless cities," yet the public is often left out of these discussions, which take place within the walls of high-priced and jargon-filled conferences. Wireless Toronto's free and open forum on "Civic Bandwidth" is the perfect opportunity to learn about and discuss the practical issues and potential involved in public wireless networks.

Any one who wants to learn more about WiFi, social media, alternative communications, telecom policy, or are just curious about what community wireless groups are all about, come join Wireless Toronto for what is sure to be a lively discussion about the wireless cities.
